Video Shows Toddler Putting Her Hands Up As Parents Arrested At Gunpoint

A passerby recorded video of a shoplifting arrest in Florida that quickly went viral. In the shocking video, a young girl is seen climbing out of her parent's truck with her hands up while officers took her parents into custody at gunpoint.

"She's trying to get out but she can't because she's little," the person who filmed the video can be heard saying. "She is out. Oh, she's holding her hands up. Oh my God, look at that. Oh my God."

The person then claims that the officers pointed their guns at the young girl, while another person can be heard disputing that claim. The officers then let the girl's mother go over and take care of her daughter and infant son, who was still in his car seat in the back of the truck.

After the incident, the Tallahassee Police Department praised the actions of their officers and released two videos from the body cameras worn by the responding officers.

“The body camera footage shows the officers’ concern for the children and their compassion as they permitted the mother to care for the children,” Chief Michael DeLeos said. “I am proud of how officers handled the situation, how they adapted when they became aware of the children, the level of concern and compassion they showed to the family."

Chad M. Bom and James W. McMullen were taken into custody and charged with second-degree petit theft. Police described the children's mother as a "suspect" but did not say if she was taken into custody or if she is facing any charges.
